Call me a gourmet or a foodie, but please don't call me a gourmand - that's an entirely different concept.
My Story
I was born and raised in a small town in Germany at a time when fast food joints were not an item yet.
My mom cooked traditional meals with ingredients available in season. Common vegetables like eggplants, peppers, avocados, or exotic spices were unknown. She had to do with what was available.
The advantage of simplicity is, that it lets you experience the flavors of the ingredients without distractions.
Since childhood I was intrigued with taste. I still vividly remember the taste of whipped cream, a taste that has become a rarity in the age of spray can "whipped cream". It is surviving in rural areas of Germany and Austria. And I even found it in a café in Tokyo.
